I just read an extremely disturbing article on abortion. Apparently over one million abortions take place each year in America. ONE MILLION. Even more shocking is that 65% of the people who had an abortion identify as “Christian”. Murder is absolutely un-Christian. Okay, so the majority of these “Christians” are probably just raised in Christian families and do not actually have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. However, I can guarantee at least 85% of these people would have been taught about abortion and actively discouraged from it, so ignorance is no excuse for them.
What I don’t get is how society and the media bay for the blood of child-murderers, yet children who are killed in the womb are largely ignored. Murder is murder. How can they honestly say that the deaths of chilren murdered by strangers are worse than those of children killed by their own parents?!
Probably because embryos, and fetuses for a large part of pregnancy, cannot feel, think, or understand what is going on around them, or even who and what they are. They are also inside of, and depending entirely on another person to keep them alive. Children are not biologically dependent on another being, and can feel, think, and understand what’s happening to them. Abortion preserves the right to bodily autonomy and integrity, but there is no reason to kill a child that’s been born.
Just a couple of reasons.
And you’re right, ignorance is no excuse. Special snowflake syndrome, on the other hand, is a frequently cited one. Ever heard of the essay, The Only Moral Abortion is My Abortion? All their concern for these fetuses goes straight out the window when they realize that pregnancy and childbirth isn’t as trivial as they’d like to think.
Oh, and it’s not murder.
