Clinic defense is also known as clinic escorting, where volunteers help patients navigate crowds of anti-abortion protestors and get safely to the clinic doors.
Clinic escorting is a volunteer gig, usually done a few times a month. For more on clinic escorting and how to get started, check out my #clinic escort tag!

Can’t get enough abortion rights activism?

I knew when I decided to blog about abortion rights activism that there was no way I could even begin to cover everything. So much affects access to abortion - income, location, race, sexuality, past experiences and trauma, family structure, stigma, education - there’s no end to what we can do to improve it!

If you want to know more about activism, get involved, or keep up with ongoing campaigns, here are some places to start:

At Connect & Breathe we know finding the right person to talk to after having had an abortion may be difficult. We are here to listen.
Whether your abortion occurred yesterday or years ago, our goal is to help you feel connected in a positive way with your decision and find peace.
Connect & Breathe provides a talk-line staffed by people trained to listen and help you find peace. We trust you and your choice. We can help by simply listening or providing you with other resources in your area - both religious and non-religious - who can also help you connect with your decision in a way that affirms you.

Post-abortion counseling is a nonpolitical way to support abortion rights and, most importantly, the patients. Based in New York, Connect & Breathe’s volunteers complete 18 hours of training and staff the line at least twice a month. For more information, click through or email volunteer@connectandbreathe.org.

Why I Volunteer at Planned Parenthood

The biggest difference you can make is often on a local level in your own community. Planned Parenthood provides essential education and both general and reproductive health care. If you’re interested in volunteering for or working with Planned Parenthood, check out these two pages:

That wraps up my abortion fund blogging day!

Because of our flawed health care system and the stigma surrounding abortion, abortion funds are an essential part of reproductive health care. I hope today inspired you all to donate, volunteer, or simply spread the word! Rights mean nothing without access, and we all play a part.

If you want to learn more about abortion funds, take some time to explore the National Network of Abortion Funds. On Tumblr, I Fund Abortions highlights staff and volunteers, and their reasons for the work they do. There are dozens of abortion funds on Twitter, so check out my People I Follow page for a list, and stay up to date with volunteer trainings, legislation, and other events in your area.

If you just can’t wait to get involved, this April is the fifth annual National Abortion Access Bowl-A-Thon, so click through to sponsor a team, find a team in your area, or participate in the Virtual Bowl-A-Thon!
